Criss Cross. (film) Criss Cross is a 1949 American film noir crime film starring Burt Lancaster, Yvonne De Carlo and Dan Duryea, directed by Robert Siodmak and written by Daniel Fuchs based on Don Tracy's 1934 novel of the same name. [2] This black-and-white film was shot partly on location in the Bunker Hill section of Los Angeles.

Eddie Muller, the "Czar of Noir" rates it as no. 2 in his list of the 25 best noir films and offers unusually perceptive comments on the film in his "Noir Alley" series. I have been watching film noir for several years and was glad to see this film at last.

Siodmak captures Lancaster’s performance of aimless angst in a claustrophobic scribble made of gunpowder and reeking of smoke. Needless to say, Burt Lancaster had the least fun at this little party full of greed. Burt Lancaster is amazing. Yvonne DeCarlo is a revelation. Criss Cross is one of the best films noir.

Considered one of the best of the film noirs to come out of Hollywood in the post-war years, Criss Cross (1949) tells the story of an honest armored-car guard whose involvement with his scheming ex-wife, now married to a sleazy gangster, lands him in the middle of a tangled and disastrous robbery.
After Criss Cross, Lancaster entered his swashbuckling phase, and after that would be found for a while almost exclusively in military uniforms and cowboy gear.
