14 mag 2023 · Hugo Dyson was a committed Christian, and Tolkien and Harvard were devout Catholics. Both Dyson and Tolkien were instrumental in converting C.S. Lewis to Christianity in 1929, meaning that, by the foundation of the Inklings, Lewis had been a Christian for around four years.

Trivia. Henry Victor "Hugo" Dyson was a Tutor and Fellow of Merton College, Oxford from 1945 to 1963. He was also one of the Inklings, a group which included C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. If any of them were in the process of writing something, they would read what they had to the group for opinions and criticism.
Henry Victor Dyson Dyson, generally known as Hugo Dyson and who signed his writings H. V. D. Dyson, was an English academic and a member of the Inklings literary group. He was a committed Christian, and together with J. R. R. Tolkien he helped C. S. Lewis to convert to Christianity, particularly after a long conversation as they strolled on Addison's Walk at Oxford.
Henry Victor Dyson Dyson (1896–1975) was generally known as Hugo Dyson, but he signed his writings H. V. D. Dyson. He was one of the Inklings. He was born on 7 April 1896. Dyson taught English at the University of Reading from 1924. He married Margaret Mary Bosworth Robinson in the Wantage area in 1925.

Tolkien’s son, Christopher, Hugo Dyson (1896-1975) had quite enough, thank you, even though the lesser-known Oxford don was considered the most fun-loving of the Inklings. As another newly-written passage of The Lord of the Rings was read aloud by its author, Dyson was “lying on the couch, and lolling and shouting and saying, ‘Oh f***, not another elf!’”
