2 giorni fa · The only person known to have ruled all of Wales as a modern territory was Gruffydd ap Llywelyn (c. 1010–1063), a prince of Gwynedd who became King of Wales from 1055 to 1063. However, some Welsh princes sporadically claimed the medieval title of Prince of Wales between the 13th to 15th centuries.

5 lug 2024 · It was captured and burned by Rhys ap Gruffydd in 1189, and rebuilt in the late twelfth century. It fell again in 1215 when Llywelyn ab Iorwerth overran south-west Wales, and was recovered and rebuilt in the 1220s.
9 lug 2024 · While he married Ankaret, daughter of Rhys ap Gruffydd, this did not keep the Prince of South Wales from expelling William from his castle of Nevern, which Rhys then gave to his own son. His widow survived him.

The duchess apparently derived this information from T. Nichols, Annals and Antiquities of the Counties and County Families of Wales....
