1 giu 2024 · Ernest Augustus was the king of Hanover, from 1837 to 1851, the fifth son of George III of England. Ernest Augustus studied at Göttingen, entered the Hanoverian army, and served as a leader of cavalry when war broke out between Great Britain and France in 1793.

George Louis of Brunswick-Lüneburg was the son of Ernest Augustus, elector of Hanover, and Sophia of the Palatinate, a granddaughter of King James I of England. George married his cousin Sophia.

Despite Hanover being expected to defeat Prussia at the Battle of Langensalza, Prussia employed Moltke the Elder’s Kesselschlacht order of battle to instead destroy the Hanoverian army.
