3 giorni fa · In 1949 no. 109 Hornsey Lane was bought for St. Aloysius's junior school, which opened in 1950 and had no official connexion with St. Aloysius's college, founded by the Brothers of Mercy in 1879 on the Islington side of Hornsey Lane.

5 giorni fa · For most of the 19th century Roman Catholics worshipped outside Hornsey. From 1858 a wide area was served by St. Joseph's retreat, on Highgate Hill. In 1869 its chapel was often crowded, especially with Irish from Upper Holloway, many of whose children attended St. Joseph's or, later, St. Aloysius's schools.
