Maybe Innocence works for me because it has a counterpoint to the ugliness in which Section 9 has to work in the GitS franchise, I'm not sure. Also, Aramaki clearly cares for Batou's welfare (rather than a corporate perspective and a "HR issue"), it shows in his approach to the problem he perceives in how Batou has been acting lately.
