1 giorno fa · On December 31, 1862, the first day of the Battle of Murfreesboro, Sheridan held back the Confederate advance until his ammunition ran out and he was forced to withdraw. For these actions, he was promoted to major general and put in charge of the 2nd Division, IV Corps, Army of the Cumberland.
