Red Norvo (born Kenneth Norville; March 31, 1908 – April 6, 1999) was an American musician, one of jazz's early vibraphonists, known as "Mr. Swing". He helped establish the xylophone, marimba, and vibraphone as jazz instruments.

Norvo was born Kenneth Norville in Beardstown, Illinois. The story goes that he sold his pet pony to help pay for his first marimba. Norvo's career began in Chicago with a band called "The Collegians", in 1925.

18 mar 2014 · Music to Listen To Red Norvo By is one of the great oddball records from the West Coast where an effort is made to stretch the boundaries of jazz with an unusual lineup. Red Norvo had a series of compelling records in the fifties and these four albums are a fine sampling from someone who could play high quality modern jazz.
