Snafue. •. It’s probably because when the back is open and you start rewinding, the canister moves back and the tension needed to wind is increased very much. With the back closed, the canister’s opening will face right like it should. Then I’m guessing you need less tension and thus reducing the sound.

All these after not being promoted in his work, being estranged from his father and son and a having a rocky marriage and then his wife dies in a car accident.
Sounds like you just spoiled up some of the slack inside the film canister. If you didn’t push the button on the bottom, then the other spool for the film advance didn’t release. I think you’re ok. By the way, if you see the rewind knob turn by itself when you advance the film, that shows you that the film was loaded correctly.
