1 giorno fa · The statue—a very fine specimen of Sir Richard Westmacott's best style—was erected in 1809. SIR THOMAS LAWRENCE'S HOUSE, RUSSELL SQUARE. A writer in the St. James's Magazine thus speaks of this locality: "Russell Square is, under ordinary circumstances, a very nice place to walk in.
28 mag 2024 · Following the death in 1809 of Robert Milligan, the prime force behind the establishment of the West India Docks, the dock company erected a bronze statue to his memory. It was made by Richard Westmacott in 1810–12 for £1,400, and was placed within the Hibbert Gate, immediately south of the Dock Office entrance portico (Plate 52e).

12 mag 2024 · Between the years 1930 and 1956, she was called Mary Westmacott. When I began writing my biography it was the six Westmacott novels, published within that time period, which excited me most about the woman who was my subject. They, it seemed to me, were the golden clues.
