18 mag 2024 · Alfred Graf von Schlieffen was chief of the German chief staff in the early 20th Century. Schlieffen proposed this plan in 1905, in the wake of Japan's victory over Russia. The idea was to avoid a two-front war by knocking one enemy out before the other could fully prepare.

He thus inherited Schlieffen’s plan for a war on two fronts, which envisaged only light German forces facing Russia on the east until France on the west had been defeated.

4 giorni fa · Recently I read The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914 by Christopher Clark.It’s a fantastic history of the events leading up to World War I, and I highly recommend it, I think I spent just as much time looking people’s names up in the index and searching Wikipedia for events that aren’t covered in significant background in this book as I did actually reading it.
