uni-marburg.de. The Philipps University of Marburg ( German: Philipps-Universität Marburg) is a public research university located in Marburg, Germany. It was founded in 1527 by Philip I, Landgrave of Hesse, which makes it one of Germany's oldest universities and the oldest still operating Protestant university in the world.
The university is known for its excellent life sciences teaching, and has one of Germany’s most well-established medical faculties. Prior to the Second World War, the University of Marburg was best known for humanities, particularly philosophy.
Philipps University of Marburg, coeducational institution of higher learning at Marburg, Ger. Marburg was the first Protestant university in Germany. It was founded in 1527 by Philip the Magnanimous of Hesse as a state institution for the support and dissemination of Lutheranism.
