Augustus of Anhalt-Plötzkau (Dessau, 14 July 1575 – Plötzkau, 22 August 1653), was a German prince of the House of Ascania and ruler of the unified principality of Anhalt. From 1603, he was ruler of the principality of Anhalt-Plötzkau.

August war ein Sohn des Fürsten Joachim Ernst von Anhalt (1536–1586) aus dessen zweiter Ehe mit Eleonore (1552–1618), Tochter des Herzogs Christoph von Württemberg. A causa delle difficoltà nella forma e nel metodo di pagamento del risarcimento, il principe Cristiano cedette a suo fratello August amt Plötzkau nel 1611, lasciando il potere sovrano a Bernburg. Lo scoppio della Guerra dei Trent'anni inferse un duro colpo ad Anhalt.
Figlio terzogenito del principe Emmanuele Lebrecht di Anhalt-Köthen e di sua moglie, Gisella Agnese von Rath, Augusto Luigi era fratello del principe Leopoldo di Anhalt-Köthen, famoso per essere stato uno dei maggiori datori di lavoro e protettori di Johann Sebastian Bach.
Es entstanden zunächst (1606) die vier Teil-Fürstentümer Anhalt-Dessau, Anhalt-Bernburg, Anhalt-Köthen und Anhalt-Zerbst. August, der fünfte Bruder, verzichtete zunächst auf seinen Anteil zu Gunsten von 300.000 Thalern. Schloss Plötzkau.
