Robert Smith Todd (February 25, 1791 – July 17, 1849) was an American lawyer, soldier, banker, businessman and politician. He was the father of First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln.
Mary Lincoln's father Robert S. Todd was a prominent businessman and politician. Mary’s father Robert Smith Todd was born in 1791, a year before Kentucky became a state. Educated at Transylvania College, he studied law but chose to go into business.

The book begins with a list and short biography of all members of the Robert Smith Todd family and ends with an epilogue detailing the lives of the surviving Todd clan members after Lincoln's assassination.
Mary Todd married Abraham Lincoln on November 4, 1842, at her sister Elizabeth's home in Springfield. She was 23 years old and he was 33 years of age. Their four sons, all born in Springfield, Illinois, were: Robert Todd Lincoln (1843–1926), lawyer, diplomat (U.S. Secretary of War), businessman.
