Augustus John (born January 4, 1878, Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales—died October 31, 1961, Fordingbridge, Hampshire, England) was a Welsh painter who was an accomplished portraitist, muralist, and draughtsman. John studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London from 1894 to 1898.

Augustus John nasce a Tenby, nel Galles, in Gran Bretagna, il 4 gennaio 1878. Compiuti gli studi alla Slade School of Art di Londra (1894-98), dove si fa notare subito per il talento, continua a studiare da autodidatta a Parigi, e in seguito viaggia in Olanda, Belgio e Francia.
