  6. In the First World War, John Joseph LYNCH volunteered to serve overseas with the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). He embarked at Brisbane, Queensland aboard HMAT Kyarra on 17 November 1916. He was a member of the 42nd Infantry Battalion.
