Steve Bays (Keyboard, Gesang), Paul Hawley (Schlagzeug) und Dustin Hawthorne (Bass) gründeten Hot Hot Heat, nachdem alle drei zuvor in anderen Bands gespielt hatten und mit deren Musik unzufrieden waren. Nach dem Ausstieg des ursprünglichen Sängers wurde dieser von Steve Bays ersetzt.
