Arrested Development is an American hip hop group, that was formed in Atlanta in 1988. It was founded by Speech and Headliner as a positive, Afrocentric alternative to the gangsta rap popular in the late 1980s. Baba Oje and frontman Speech met at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee when they were both students.
I spoke with Jason “JJ Boogie” Reichert about his life of transgressing racial boundaries while trafficking in joy. The recipient of a 2019 Black Music Honors Award, Jay is the guitarist as well as a producer and writer for the historic hip-hop group Arrested Development, one of my favorite musical acts of all time.
Producer and guitarist Jason “JJBoogie” Reichert who currently tours with the two time Grammy winning hip hop group Arrested Development and southern rock duo Fire & the Knife was born and raised in Atlanta Georgia cutting his teeth on the local blues scene for many years as a drummer first.
Jason Reichert, a.k.a. JJBoogie, has been a professional musician for 22 years. He first started out on drums at age eight playing along to Motown records and listening to funk, jazz, R&B & Rock & Roll.
