5 feb 2008 · Brian Doerner, a Kitchener resident and veteran drummer of rock bands SAGA and HELIX, was the first of three patients treated so far under the new protocol, which started last fall. According to hospital records, 77 minutes passed between the Oct. 5 electrocardiogram he got at home and the opening of his artery in hospital.
Just prior to the release of 10,000 Days, in October 2007 drummer Brian Doerner suffered a heart attack. He has since made a full recovery, but a stand-in drummer (Chris Sutherland) of the Kim Mitchell Band was required to fulfill touring commitments.
Helix is a Canadian hard rock and heavy metal band. They formed in 1974, and are best known for their 1984 single "Rock You". The original lineup was formed by drummer Bruce Arnold, and consisted of lead vocalist Brian Vollmer, guitarists Ron Watson and Rick "Minstrel" Trembley, keyboardist Don Simmons, and bassist Keith "Bert" Zurbrigg.

On October 6, 2007, Brian Doerner suffered a heart attack. He was due to leave for Europe on a Saga tour. His life was saved, and eventually was able to return to drumming. Brian noted if the heart attack had happened a day later when he was leaving with Saga, "If I'd been on the plane, I'd be dead."

17 apr 2024 · A Concord Township man accused of killing his girlfriend before attempting to commit suicide has been arraigned on a charge of aggravated murder. According to court documents, Brian K. Doerner entered a plea of not guilty to the first-degree felony charge April 15 in the Painesville Municipal Court.
