Known in English as the Old Patagonian Express, the La Trochita is a steam train ploughing a narrow-gauge railway in Patagonia, Argentina. It’s an incredibly stunning journey, sandwiches between the plains of Patagonia and the peaks of the Andes, with the train pulled by steam locomotives and offering photo opportunities at every moment.
The Old Patagonian Express once stretched out 402 kilometres and it was originally planned as part of a larger network that would connect all of Patagonia. However, the project was never completed due to ministerial changes and then the start of the First World War, which also affected Argentina’s economy.
