Due to a population drop in the North Sydney area, the historic North Sydney Technical High School (NSTHS) was closed in 1969. The first Principal of Killara High School was Mr T.E. Hornibrook, who had been Principal of North Sydney Technical High School. Quite a few of the teachers at the new Killara High School also came from that school.
