Raine's Foundation School was a Church of England voluntary aided school based on two sites in Bethnal Green in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, England.
RAINE'S SCHOOL FOUNDATION. The Future of The Foundation. Having celebrated the joy of its Tercentenary in St Paul's in 2019, followed by the sadness of closure of the School by LBTH in 2020, the Raine's School Foundation is looking to the future.
Raine's School Foundation. Henry Raine was a wealthy brewer from Wapping; he was a pious Churchman, highly respected in the community. In 1719, Henry Raine founded Raine's Foundation School to provide an education for local poor children (50 boys and 50 girls).
Celebrating 300 years. Raine's celebrated its Tercentenary on 8th May 2019 at St Paul's Cathedral. An evensong service to celebrate our Foundation was very well attended by current and past students and teachers.
11 lug 2019 · East London’s oldest school faces closure. Consultations are open on plans to close Raine’s Foundation School in August 2020, with Oaklands Secondary School expanding in order to accommodate displaced students.
Preserved in facade of modern school are the 2 original figures of boy and girl and the original tablet inscribed "Come in and learn your duty to God and Man, 1719" from the first Raine's School in Raine Street, Wapping (qv).
5 nov 2019 · The death knell has been sounded for the East End’s oldest school after 300 years with the Mayor of Tower Hamlets issuing a statutory notice to shut down Raine’s Foundation.
