Lanterna is a musical project led by guitarist Henry Frayne, formerly of Lodestone Destiny, The Syndicate, Ack-Ack, Area and The Moon Seven Times. Their tracks are evocative soundscapes, usually instrumental, that focus on Frayne's melodic guitar work awash in effects .
Hidden Drives is Henry Frayne's latest offering as Lanterna, a mostly instrumental side project begun some thirty years ago by the guitarist and member of multiple Champagne, Illinois groups including Lodestone Destiny, The Syndicate, ¡Ack-Ack!, Area, and The Moon Seven Times.
“Cupola” adds drummer Eric Gebow for some rock drive, as Frayne makes like the Edge gone shoegaze, while “Maine 262” evokes sensual dream pop with heavily processed guitar in place of cooing vocals.
Enter Lanterna, a longtime instrumental side project of veteran Midwestern guitarist Henry Frayne. He eschews all of those turnoffs by weaving lush guitars and synthesizers into a sonic tapestry rich in texture, emotion and melody.

18 lug 2021 · Guitarist Henry Frayne started up Lanterna around 30 years ago, and his latest release, Hidden Drives, represents the fruition of music ideas spanning the decades. Having compiled old cassette tapes onto CD, Frayne revisited the unfinished material and shaped it into the ten completed tracks that became Hidden Drives.
Twenty years ago when Lanterna began working with Badman, Frayne enlisted the help of producer/engineer/guitarist Mike Brosco at Waterworks Audio in Champaign, as well as Chicagoan Eric Gebow who would drum on Lanterna's Highways, Desert Ocean, and tour the US, and Greece.
