Yeji was born in Jeonju, North Jeolla, South Korea on May 26, 2000. Her family consists of her mother, her father, and her older sister.
Predebut
On 2018 Yeji joined SBS' reality competition television series, The Fan, but was eliminated in episode 5. On Jan. 20, 2019 she was revealed as the leader of ITZY, JYP Entertainment's newest girl group.

On February 12, 2019, Yeji debuted with the single album IT'z Different as lider, main dancer, lead vocalist and rapper of ITZY. On March 2021, she was selected as STUDIO CHOOM's "Artist Of The Month", with a special dance performance on "River" by Bishop Briggs. On May 1, 2021, she became a special MC on Show! Music Core.
