Her 1978 album, Jaded Virgin (Epic), was voted Record of the Year by Stereo Review. In 1998, Marshall and Matraca Berg contributed 14 songs to Good Ol' Girls, a country musical based on the stories of Lee Smith and Jill McCorkle. The musical continues to play theaters throughout the South. She has written two books.

21 mag 2020 · Then came the more straightforward rock album Marshall in 1979, which included a remake of “Why Can’t I Be Like Other Girls?,” a signature song originally on Jaded Virgin. In 1982, Marshall released Take It On Home on Rounder Records, filled with more great songs and a stripped-back sound that sounded more like her.
