In turn, Mitchell left in January 1971 and was replaced by Doug Bogie for two live gigs. 1971–1974: Queen and Queen II. In February 1971, John Deacon joined Queen. In addition to being an experienced bassist, his quiet demeanour complemented the band, and he was skilled in electronics.

Doug ha ricordato che i due concerti sono andati abbastanza bene, ma ha dimenticato di aver fatto un errore: ha provato a rubare la scena a Freddie: “Ha cominciato a saltare sul palco senza nessun criterio” ha detto Brian con diplomazia. Smile (band) Smile were an English rock band formed in London in 1968 and was the predecessor of the band Queen. The band was formed by Tim Staffell and Brian May, who later went on to form Queen. They were later joined by drummer Roger Taylor, who also went on to form Queen. They recorded six songs and disbanded in 1970.
