James Newton Howard was hired to be the film's composer after Shore's departure, and, after only two weeks, started recording the score at Sony Scoring Stage and Todd-AO in Los Angeles. [4] [5] As the film was scheduled for a December 2005 release, Howard was assigned to complete the score within five weeks, which he called the hardest challenge.
In 2015, James Newton Howard was named the new artistic director of the Henry Mancini Institute (HMI) at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. [20] On March 23–24, 2019, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra gave the world premiere of Howard's Concerto for Cello & Orchestra with LACO principal cello Andrew Shulman as the soloist.
