The Hillcrest Mystery is a 1918 silent film directed by George Fitzmaurice and starring Irene Castle. The film was released by Pathé Exchange in March 1918, only a month following the untimely death of Irene Castle's husband and dance partner, Vernon Castle in an airplane accident.

Overview. During a party held in honor of his daughter Marion, Thomas Sterling announces that he will turn over his shipbuilding plant to the United States government for the duration of World War I. The young man leaves Hillcrest, forgetting that Marion's necklace is in his pocket. Later that night, Sterling is found murdered, and Gordon, who has sneaked back into the house to put the necklace in the safe, is seen by the policeman guarding the body.
