St Mary's College is a college of Durham University in England. Following the grant of a supplemental charter in 1895 allowing women to receive degrees of the university, St Mary's was founded as the Women's Hostel in 1899, adopting its present name in May 1920.
Originally founded in the 19th century, St Mary's retains the traditions of a long-established College in supporting and nurturing academic excellence, whilst also encouraging students to take advantage of the many opportunities available to participate in music, art, drama, sport and community projects.
Mary’s is renowned in Durham as being one of the friendliest colleges. Anyone and everyone is welcome at Mary’s! We have beautiful old buildings and grounds, an amazing location, which is across the road from the Mountjoy site and we are the closest Hill College to the city centre!
St Mary’s was established in 1899 and is the third oldest college at Durham. It was originally an all women’s college, but it has now been mixed since 2005 and is home to around 800 undergraduates and 150 postgraduates.
