Summaries. A mother loses first her son and then her husband in the trenches of France during the First World War. She devotes herself to the French cause and to helping those wounded in the war. It is summer. In the fertile fields of Meurcy, France, the tillers are gathering the harvest.
Sponsored by the French Ministry of War and conceived as a semi-documentary to be used for propaganda purposes, it sought to bring the realities of an otherwise abstract war to the American public. Bernhardt plays a provincial wife and mother who eventually loses her husband and son to the War.
