The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (NGDB) is an American country rock band formed in 1966. The group has existed in various forms since its founding in Long Beach, California. Between 1976 and 1981, the band performed and recorded as the Dirt Band. Constant members since the early times are singer-guitarist Jeff Hanna and drummer Jimmie Fadden.

Bruce Kunkel, a founding member of the NGDB, contributed guitars, washtub bass, kazoo, and vocals from 1965 to 1967. His work on the band’s first two albums, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Ricochet, helped establish their unique blend of country, folk, and jug band music.

19 apr 2024 · Making an entrance… From the get-go, we have a band with a sound all its own. The musical ability of all the members who played on that first recording is beyond doubt. And, when a group of talented players is given a well-written song to play, good things happen.
The current lineup of the band features Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden on drums, harmonica and vocals (since 1966), Bob Carpenter on keyboards and vocals (since 1979), Jim Photoglo on bass and guitar (since 2005), Jaime Hanna on guitar and vocals, and Ross Holmes on mandolin and fiddle (both since 2018).
