McHale's Navy Joins the Air Force took in $1,500,000. In 1997, a sequel was released, starring Tom Arnold as McHale's US Naval Academy graduate son, which showed the PT-73 and its crew operating in a modern, post-World War II setting in the Caribbean.

Overview. The crew of PT-73 are in trouble again when Ensign Parker is mistaken for a pilot and gets shanghied into the Air Force. Edward Montagne.
In the midst of an aimless celebration in which both crews participate, two Russian NKVD officers come aboard. After mix-ups involving uniforms, Lieut. Wilbur Harkness, pilot son of an Army Air Force general officer, is found in a Russian outfit and is carted away as a spy.
