Yale Divinity School (YDS) is one of the twelve graduate and professional schools of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Congregationalist theological education was the motivation at the founding of Yale, and the professional school has its roots in a Theological Department established in 1822.
Yale Divinity School exists to address the most pressing issues facing humanity in the 21st century. We engage this challenge through scholarship of the highest caliber and through the cultivation of faith.
Degree Programs: Master of Divinity. Master of Arts in Religion. Master of Sacred Theology.
Academic and professional degree programs at Yale Divinity School prepare students for a wide range of careers and vocational directions, from the many fields of ministry to non-profit and service careers, from work within the academic realm to preparation for further degree study.
The three-year Master of Divinity (MDIV) degree at YDS prepares students for ordination and parish ministry in the various Christian denominations. Courses of study include biblical interpretation, theology, ethics, the history of Christianity, and the practical aspects of ministry such as preaching, pastoral counseling, and Christian education.
The degree of Master of Divinity (M.Div.) certifies completion of a program of theological studies designed primarily, although not exclusively, to prepare the candidate for ordination to the Christian ministry.
