The High School of Music & Art, informally known as "Music & Art" (or "M&A"), was a public specialized high school located at 443-465 West 135th Street in the borough of Manhattan, New York, from 1936 until 1984.

The High School of Music & Art … established in 1936 by mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia, who regarded it as his “most hopeful accomplishment.” Music & Art was the first high school in the United States for gifted children specializing in music and art.
The High School of Music & Art was founded by Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia in 1936. He wanted to establish a public school in which students could hone their talents in music, art and the performing arts.
LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts has a long history of producing many of the most notable artists. Alumni have gone on to Broadway, television, dance, art, and almost every facet of the music world.
