The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN; Zulu: INyuvesi yakwaZulu-Natali, Afrikaans: Universiteit van KwaZulu-Natal) is a university with five campuses in the province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. It was formed on 1 January 2004 after the merger between the University of Natal and the University of Durban-Westville.
The city is the birthplace of the former University of Natal and its forerunner, the Natal University College, which opened its doors to 57 students in 1910. Two years later, Old Main Building was completed and the hub of the present-day PMB campus was established.
15 mag 2024 · The University KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, eastern South Africa, was formed in 2004 following a merger of the University of Durban-Westville and the University of Natal, the first institutions to merge after government legislation aimed at reducing the number of South African universities.
