In 1981, Van den Berg hired Bert Heerink (vocals), Dick Kemper (bass), and Jos Zoomer (drums), and formed the group Vandenberg. They recorded a demo that came to the notice of journalist Kees Baars. He offered to manage the group and contracted them to Atlantic Records .

De band, opgericht door bassist Dick Kemper, zanger Bert Heerink, drummer Jos Zoomer en gitarist Adrian ('Adje') Vandenberg, was actief tussen 1981 en 1987 en scoorde in 1983 een internationale hit met het nummer Burning Heart.
Jos Zoomer is probably best known as drummer in Vandenberg. He has been playing in the band Shiver since 2004, replacing Frits Niemeijer. Jos Zoomer has also played with Bert Heerink, No Identity, The Arena, and Soylent Green. He joined German melodic rockers Mad Max in February 2008.
