30 nov 2020 · Here, we investigated how language and cultural identification influence pain report and physiological responses within Spanish–English bilinguals. We used thermal stimulations to evoke pain and recorded mean skin conductance response amplitude (mSCRa) as a measure of physiological arousal.
By investigating the relationship between online language processing and pain perception in populations with different prior history of chronic pain, we were able to show that the comprehension of pain words may be mediated by mechanisms engaged in experiencing pain itself.
