Harvey Williams Cushing (April 8, 1869 – October 7, 1939) was an American neurosurgeon, pathologist, writer, and draftsman. A pioneer of brain surgery, he was the first exclusive neurosurgeon and the first person to describe Cushing's disease. He wrote a biography of physician William Osler in three volumes.
Harvey Williams Cushing was an American surgeon who was the leading neurosurgeon of the early 20th century. Cushing graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1895 and then studied for four years at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, under William Stewart Halsted.

24 ott 2016 · Cushing died in Connecticut, from complications of a myocardial infarction. Interestingly, as the pioneer of modern neurosurgical practice, his autopsy revealed a colloid cyst in the third ventricle.
