William Drew Robeson I (July 27, 1844 – May 17, 1918) was the minister of Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church in Princeton, New Jersey from 1880 to 1901 and the father of Paul Robeson. The Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church had been built for its black members by the First Presbyterian Church of Princeton.

William Drew Robeson I was the minister of Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church in Princeton, New Jersey from 1880 to 1901 and the father of Paul Robeson. The Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church had been built for its black members by the First Presbyterian Church of Princeton.
Paul Robeson won Phi Beta Kappa honors and oratorical and debating prizes and was named All-American in football and class valedictorian at Rutgers. By then, he had found, among southern blacks, main sources of black genius in the arts, which he later illustrated during the Negro Renaissance.
From 1880–1901, Paul Robeson’s father, William Drew Robeson, was pastor of the all-black Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church in Princeton, New Jersey, spiritually a Jim Crow town formed by an all-white university.
