Early life. Prince Mehmed Reşad was born on 2 November 1844 at the Çırağan Palace, [4] Constantinople. [5] . His father was Sultan Abdulmejid I, and his mother was Gülcemal Kadın. He had three elder sisters, Fatma Sultan, [6] Refia Sultan and Hatice Sultan (Refia Sultan's twin sister, died in infancy). [7] .
