Reduction, recorded in 1997, is the fourth solo album from the original guitarist of Yes. It’s a creative instrumental album of guitar and guitar synth embellished with loops and samples, certainly Banks’ most contemporary sounding album, and nothing like Yes.

Like Belew’s failed first instrumental album, Reduction finds the guitarist sleepwalking through various settings, some languorous and others lively, trotting out the same by-now familiar sounds once too often.
Reduction is the third out of the three albums that Peter Banks released during the 1990's, and it can be seen as a continuation of the previous two. But even though this trio of albums have a somewhat similar sound and style, the feel of Reduction is slightly different compared to the previous two albums.

Peter William Brockbanks (15 July 1947 – 7 March 2013), known professionally as Peter Banks, was a British guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and producer. He was the original guitarist in the rock band Yes, Flash, and Empire; he was also a guitarist for The Syn.
