Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna is a descendant of the Russian tsars, and was born in Madrid, where her family was in exile. Her father’s name was Vladimir Romanov Kirilovitch, and he was head of the Romanov dynasty from 1938 until his death in 1992 (so, over a very long period of almost 54 years).
