17 ago 2020 · The genesis of Bima Sakti, though, was O’Malley’s visit to Indonesia on some sort of junket in early 2017. There he met Wukir Suryadi of Javanese duo Senyawa, whose extreme metal-influenced spin on native folk and ritual music had proved unsurprisingly to his taste since Senyawa started filtering into Western ears around two years prior.
The six tracks of ’Bimi Sakti’ document groundbreaking ventures between Senyawa and O’Malley, yielding an incredibly powerful mix of electric guitar and bass guitar amp worship blended with the remarkable range of tonalities from Senyawa’s custom-built bambuwukir, plus traditional pipes and possessed vocals.
16 lug 2020 · Stephen O’Malley has collaborated with Senyawa on a new album. Bima Sakti marks the first time the Sunn O))) member has worked with the Indonesian duo. The collaboration came about after O’Malley travelled to Indonesia with theatre director and choreographer Gisèle Vienne in 2018.
