2023-24 Catalog. Chemistry, BA. The different disciplines of modern physical and biological sciences have much to offer each other through advances in technology. Aside from basic research, society continually generates fundamental scientific and technological challenges such as the need for new sources of energy, new synthetic and biotechnologies;
The Chemistry program provides a basic foundation which prepares students for career opportunities in chemical research and teaching, in scientific communication and information transfer, and in the health professions. Penn's Undergraduate program in Chemistry is a program of the School of Arts and Sciences.
The Chemistry Major. Those considering a major in chemistry should consult with the Undergraduate Chairman as soon as possible, preferably in their first year, especially if you have advanced placement credits in science or mathematics courses from high school.

The University of Pennsylvania offers a BSc in Chemistry with a duration of 4 years. This course is offered on a full-time basis. This program is provided on-campus. Chemistry majors normally complete the following introductory sequences by the end of the sophomore year: General Chemistry (2 c.u.) General Chemistry Laboratories (1 c.u.)
