Born 1953 October 1 Los Angeles California. Studied piano (reluctantly) at age six. Played clarinet, french horn, eventually stuck with trombone through fifth grade. Picked up alto sax in the sixth grade, hoping to join a surf/rock band. Played tenor sax in a blues band in high school. Studied with John Klemmer.
