Black Journal (1968-1970) is a landmark in American broadcast history as the first nationally-televised, regularly-scheduled African-American public affairs program, providing a unique perspective on the Civil Rights period.
Black Journal as a cultural space was a site of Black resistance to mainstream misunderstandings and misinterpretations of Black cultural expression and political activism. Especially in its first three seasons, Black Journal maintained the highest level of cultural, political, and artistic significance.
