Bernie is a 1996 French film directed by Albert Dupontel. [2] Plot. It tells the story of Bernie Noël, a 29-year-old man who's been raised all his life in an orphanage in Paris' suburbs. He was found in a garbage can when he was only a few weeks old.

Albert Dupontel's Bernie follows in a similar comedic vein but, with its grisly spectacle of mayhem, mutilation and massacre, offers few easy laughs and is a profoundly disturbing film. This was Dupontel's first full-length film as a director.
