Booker T. & the M.G.'s were an American instrumental R&B/funk band that was influential in shaping the sound of Southern soul and Memphis soul. The original members of the group were Booker T. Jones (organ, piano), Steve Cropper (guitar), Lewie Steinberg (bass), and Al Jackson Jr. (drums).
The Booker T. Set is a 1969 studio album by the Southern soul band Booker T. & the M.G.'s. Other than one original track, it consists mostly of instrumental covers of popular songs from the previous several years. Multiple genres of music are covered, including folk, soul, jazz, funk, and rock.
American instrumental rhythm & blues and soul combo, formed 1962 in Memphis, Tennessee. Best remembered as the in-house backing band of the Stax record label. The band’s name is a combination of organist Booker T. Jones 's first names and the acronym for “Memphis Group”, MG.
