Following the band's hiatus in 1989, Max worked on several different projects. Beginning in 1993, he went on to great success as the musical director and band leader for "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," assembling a top flight set of musicians to form the Max Weinberg 7.
In 1993, Weinberg got the role as bandleader of The Max Weinberg 7 for Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Weinberg's drums-driven jump blues sound and his role as a comic foil prospered along with the show, giving him a second career.

The group was originally formed and led by drummer Max Weinberg in 1993, and played under the name The Max Weinberg 7 when it was the house band for Late Night with Conan O'Brien in New York through 2009.
The debut album from the Max Weinberg's Late Night band is indeed mighty-- 17 vocal and instrumental selections like "Lollipop," "Rock This Joint," "Nervous Boogie," and "Catch 'Em in the Act," featuring piano and vocals from Dr. John. Produced by Max and arranged by Jimmy Vivino.
