A false positive error, or false positive, is a result that indicates a given condition exists when it does not. For example, a pregnancy test which indicates a woman is pregnant when she is not, or the conviction of an innocent person.
In statistica il falso positivo, analogo all' errore di primo tipo, è il risultato di un test che porta erroneamente ad accettare l' ipotesi sulla quale esso è stato condotto. Da notare che può indurre in confusione l'utilizzo dell' ipotesi nulla ( H0 ); l'ipotesi nulla è opposta alla tesi.
